Conflict with the Philistines

5:17 When the Philistines heard that David had been designated ¹  king over Israel, they all ²  went up to search for David. When David heard about it, he went down to the fortress.

2 Samuel 12:19

12:19 When David saw that his servants were whispering to one another, he ³  realized that the child was dead. So David asked his servants, “Is the child dead?” They replied, “Yes, he’s dead.”

[5:17]  ¹ tn Heb “anointed.”

[5:17]  ² tn Heb “all the Philistines.”

[12:19]  ³ tn Heb “David.” The name has been replaced in the translation by the pronoun (“he”) for stylistic reasons.
